BEAR PATROL ADVANCEMENT DAY

WHO: Members of the Bear patrol

WHAT: Bear Patrol Advancement Day

WHY: So we can get as many requirements done and finish rank advancements before the next court of honor.

Also, to come up with a new patrol yell. And to discuss becoming an honor patrol. And to have some time together as a patrol.

WHERE: David ’s house. We may walk to the park if someone needs to cook over an open fire.

WHEN: Saturday, January 12, 2008 11-4 (approximately). It probably won’t take us all day, but we’ll eat and talk afterwards.

HOW: Parents will drop off their Scouts, and can stay if they want. We won’t be going anywhere except for on foot (maybe), so we won’t need a permit. It will be a patrol meeting, not a troop function.

First Class and above will teach the TTFC Bears. Mr. Burris may be helping. Most of what is needed is First Aid. We can’t sign off campout stuff or swimming.

So far, what's planned is:
Some first aid requirements
Finding direction without a compass
Making a useful camp gadget with lashings
Using a compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, tower, canyon, ditch, etc.)

Please let David know if you need anything else.

The Patrol Day was very successful. Mr. Burris came out to help. The orienteering course wasn't very good, but at least it gave the Bears a chance to use their skills. The First Aid parts were a lot better. Duane also taught the younger Scouts how to find direction during day and night without a compass. And he helped Elisha to build a useful camp gadget. All in all a success as all the Bears but one have advanced to First Class.
