camping list for week trip any advice?
im planning this for a week in spring we are going in northeast indiana
and lemme know if i should or shouldnt add anything to the list
im wondering if the following would be enough:
IBprofen/tylenol/advil
a few lighters
a few knives
hatchet
gloves for all 3 of us
3 changes of clothes
5 rolls of TP
lighterfluid
canned foods/freeze dried
can opener
flashlights/ lanturn
flint/newspaper/lint
lots of rope
swiss army knife
mosquito spray
well stocked medkit
duct tape
bottled water
watch for each person
machette
bucket
shovel
Wil this be enough to sustain 3 teenage boys for a week? am i missing anything?
we will avoid civilization and dont want tents pillows / blankets
Definitly bring a tarp. If not a tarp, bring some sort of plastic big enough to use as cover. Your not gonna last ten minutes if it rains. Run a length of rope from on tree to another as high up as you can. Drape the darp over it with equal lengths of tarp on each side. Next tie maybe 3 feet of rope on each of the four corners. Attach the rope to a tent stake with a simple loop and secure all four corners. If it starts raining really hard and the ground doesn't drain well, you can use your shovel to cut a moat in the ground to divert the water around your dry space. Also bring rain gear. Spring time can be kind of moody.
Other things I think you should bring.
- Soap or waterless hand sanatizer.
- Sunglasses
- Extra batteries for your flashlights.
- Eating utensils.
- Map of the area with compass. If you get lost, just make a compass reading and head for the nearest road/highway.
- If your not going to bring any blankets or tents, I would find a spot to camp up against a big rock or something like that. That way you'll stay warmer because the heat of the fire will reflect heat off of the rock behind you. Acts as a good windshield as well. One thing about wood, try to push down, chop, saw, or pull down dead standing trees. These are much drier than wood on the ground and usually yields more wood per exertion of energy.
Be careful. Nature can do anything she wants. If your not too experienced dont go to far from civilization. Sounds like you need to master some basic skills.
Dont camp next to rivers. Make sure to dig a hole to dispose of waste, that way predators won't be tempted. Try not to wear cotton AT ALL. If you sweat during the day it will build up moisture and not dry good. And then at night you'll be freakin cold!
